Town of Griffith Announcements – Wednesday January 7, 2015

Town-of-GriffithSalt and Alleys
The Griffith Public Works Dept. would like to advise everyone with newly resurfaced alleys NOT to place salt or similar ice melt products on the surface. This recommendation comes from the manufacturer of the product that has been put in place in your alley.

Christmas Tree Disposal
With regards to old Christmas Trees, Republic Services WILL haul your old tress away however ONLY if you have placed them directly next to your blue Republic Refuse container on garbage pick-up days.

Street Parking and Snow
We would like to remind all residents that in accordance with town ordinance, when more than once inch of accumulation of snow exists on the roadway, parked vehicles should be moved in order to allow for curb to curb plowing. In cases of significant snowfall, this ensures effective passage for emergency vehicles responding to those in need and cleared parking areas for residents. Residents can expect reasonable enforcement of this ordinance from the Griffith Police Department.

Cold Temperatures
We would also like to urge all residents exercise caution when physically exerting themselves in the cold temperatures we are currently experiencing. Please keep an eye on elderly neighbors and remember that the Town has the availability of warming shelters that can be activated for those that experience an extended loss of heat or power. In this event, please contact the Griffith Police Department at 924-3141.

Ice Skating
Ice skating is now available (weather permitting) in Central Park by the Little League Fields (just off Pine and Broad Streets). Please let the Park Dept know what you think about the rink being available at robert.bubala@griffith.in.gov.

Pet Tags
Pet Tags are available from now through February 27th at the Town Clerk's office (111 N. Broad St). The cost is $5 for neutered and $7 for non-neutered animals. Starting March 1st, a $10 penalty will be assessed. Please stop by the Clerk's Office at 111 N. Broad St to purchase the tag. Please remember to bring official paperwork showing a current rabies vaccination.

Park Pavilion Rentals
Thinking about having a celebration or party in 2015 and want to have it in a park, if so please consider it having it at one of Griffith's Parks (Cheever, South Park, Central). Griffith residents can make reservations now through February 28th. After that date, reservations will be open to everyone. Rates and more info can be found HERE. To make a reservation or if you have questions, please contact the Park Department at 219-922-3078.

Crime Watch Meetings
The Community Crime Watch Program would like to invite you to participate in its crime prevention program. There are meetings that take place in the basement of town hall (111 N. Broad St.) coming up on Tuesday January 20th at10:30 am and Thursday January 22nd at 6:30 pm. The program is active and is expanding its presence. This forum provides an opportunity for citizens to present their concerns and problems regarding crime in our neighborhoods.
