Trojan Guard Celebrates Season at 2016 Awards Night

chs-trojan-guard-award-2016The Chesterton High School Trojan Guard Marching Band hosted their annual Awards Night this past Tuesday to celebrate the accomplishments of their 2015 season. The event is designed to recognize and reward the individual efforts that were an integral part of making the group’s recent competitive season so successful.

“This is special for the kids and parents because it’s a chance to recognize and reward those dedicated students who choose to lead by example,” said the band’s director, Michael Scheiber.

The Trojan Guard won the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Scholastic State Championship this past fall, the second victory of its kind for the group in the last three years. While this ceremony looks back on the previous 2015 season, members of the marching band know that it also signals the start of preparations for the new 2016 edition of the Trojan Guard.

On Thursday, February 18, the band will begin a series of pre-season rehearsals that will include the addition of next year’s freshman class. Along with the new music that will be taught at these rehearsals, marching basics will be introduced to each potential member and the color guard students will also use this time to gain basic skills on their traditional equipment if rifles, flags, and sabers.
