UnitedHealthcare collaborates with Opportunity Enterprises to support people with disabilities

UnitedHealthcare recently expanded its commitment to helping Northwest Indiana communities live healthier lives with a donation to Opportunity Enterprises (OE). UnitedHealthcare extended its commitment with a $5,000 sponsorship to Opportunity Enterprises, a nonprofit organization supporting over 1,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the region. This is the third year UnitedHealthcare has served as a sponsor for OE.

“Our mission at UnitedHealthcare – to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone – complements the mission of OE,” said Michael Telesky, Vice President, UnitedHealthcare of Illinois and Indiana. “They’re helping improve the lives of people living with disabilities, a goal that aligns well with the work our team is dedicated to.”

OE's mission – to create inclusive and equitable opportunities for people of all abilities – offers a suite of programs and services, including residential, educational day programs, community employment and training, on-demand transportation, respite, social enterprises and much  more. The support from UnitedHealthcare furthers OE’s efforts in changing lives and fostering inclusion in our Northwest Indiana communities.

“The support of donors like UnitedHealthcare is crucial in maintaining and expanding our services. Their generosity helps ensure OE continues offering high-quality services that empower people with disabilities to reach their fullest potential,” said Jane Kobak, Associate Director of Major Giving, OE.

As part of the sponsorship, UnitedHealthcare will serve as an “Inspire” level sponsor for OE’s upcoming Gala on May 10 at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City. The event gives attendees an opportunity to support OE’s programs while enjoying a night of fun and community through dinner, auctions, and engaging with the individuals who use OE resources and services.

OE is able to provide high-quality programs, interact with families, and help individuals gain independence through employment – in part due to many generous donors and sponsors. Contributors such as UnitedHealthcare work with OE to support the organization by attending fundraising events, giving time and funds, and spreading the word about the nonprofit’s mission. Annual sponsors like UnitedHealthcare can make a world of difference for people in need of support.

“We’re honored that UnitedHealthcare is a supporter,” Kobak said. “Their dedication to our mission and our community means so much to us.”

Telesky says supporting OE is part of the organization’s dedication to improving the health and well-being of its members and all Americans. As nonprofits like OE improve the lives of people in their communities, UnitedHealthcare takes another step towards fulfilling its mission.

“It’s important to us to help build healthier communities,” Telesky said. “We love working with great organizations like OE that are helping improve the communities where we all live, work and serve.”

Supporting OE’s mission is simple to do. Kobak encourages people to take a tour of OE to see how their personal philanthropy provides profound and positive impact on our communities. For more information, visit oppent.org or schedule a visit to the organization.
Also, consider purchasing a ticket for the upcoming Gala or participating in the event’s auction. Tickets for purchase and more information are available online at oegala.com. People who aren’t able to attend on May 10 can still support OE in other ways. Consider volunteering your time or donating (oppent.org/donate) to help ensure individuals in our communities have access to necessary programs.
