Valparaiso Community School Board Hosting Public Hearing on New Superintendent on March 20th, Meeting to Follow

valpo-community-schoolsThe Governing Board of the Valparaiso Community Schools will convene a public hearing on March 20, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Valparaiso Community School Administration Building located at 3801 Campbell Street, Valparaiso, Indiana.

The purpose of the public hearing is to comply with IC 20-26-5-4.3 which requires that at least seven (7) days before a contract for employment is entered into by a Governing Board and a School Superintendent, the Governing Board shall hold a public hearing on the proposed contract at which public comment is heard.

The Superintendent contract will provide for the following:

  1. An annual salary in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Fifty Eight Thousand Dollars ($158,000.00). The Governing Board reserves the right to negotiate a Superintendent salary lower than this amount.
  2. Benefits as provided to employees of VCS including health insurance ($12,495.00), dental insurance ($606.58), long term disability insurance ($541.52), $50,000.00 of term life insurance ($77.00) and entitlement to sick days, vacation days and bereavement leave.
  3. Participation in Teacher Retirement Fund in an amount equal to 10.5% of annual salary.
  4. A $10,000.00 contribution to a 403B plan.
  5. An automobile expense reimbursement consistent with VCS policy and valued at $3,600.00.
  6. Access to normal district equipment including a cell phone, laptop and iPad.

It is anticipated that the VCS Governing Board will enter into a Superintendent Contract following completion of the search process.
