Valparaiso Community Schools to provide funding for students to eat free

Due to COVID-19, the USDA is providing funding to schools so all students eat free. A free qualified breakfast and lunch will be available to all children 18 years old and under beginning Monday, September 21, 2020 through December 17, 2020.

These meals will be available to all VCS in-person learners in the school cafeteria and by curbside pickup for remote learners, including non-VCS students and children not yet in school. All curbside pickup meals must be pre-ordered at https://www.valpo.k12.in.us/apps/pages/nutrition

VCS In-Person Learners

In-person learners may receive these free meals at school during their designated breakfast and lunch times. This applies only to qualified meals, not snacks and beverages.  A qualified meal consists of items from at least three food groups, one of which must be a fruit or vegetable. VCS In-Person Learners will also receive a retroactive credit to their cafeteria account for qualified meals purchased from the beginning of the school year.

On Wednesday eLearning days, in-person students will be able to pre-order meals for curbside pickup from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Thomas Jefferson Middle School or Ben Franklin Middle School. Meals must be pre-ordered for Wednesday curbside pickup. To pre-order, please visit http://www.valpo.k12.in.us/apps/pages/nutrition. You will choose your pickup location when you pre-order.

Remote Learners

Remote learning families will have the opportunity to obtain free meals with daily curbside pickup. Remote learners (VCS or other schools) must pre-order meals at http://www.valpo.k12.in.us/apps/pages/nutrition. Curbside pickup is available every day from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Thomas Jefferson Middle School or Ben Franklin Middle School. You will choose your pickup location when you pre-order.
