The Indiana Academic Spell Bowl-Senior Division Area Contest was held Monday, November 4 at Washington Township High School. High Schools from Valparaiso (Class 1-62 correct out of 100), Boone Grove (Class 3-32 correct out of 100) and Morgan Township (Class 4-57 correct out of 100) each won the Area Spell Bowl titles in their respective classes. Unlike the traditional oral spelling contest, teams use one representative per round (10 rounds total) to correctly spell the contest words. Winning teams are named based on the cumulative total of correctly spelled words of all members. Valparaiso, Morgan Township and Chesterton (Class 1) High School Spell Bowl teams qualified for the State Competition to be held at Purdue University on Saturday, November 16th. 30 schools will be competing in all four enrollment classes. High Schools participating at the Washington Township Area Spell Bowl included: Chesterton HS, Hobart HS, LaPorte HS, Valparaiso HS (Class 1), Boone Grove HS (Class 3), Hebron HS, Kouts HS, Marquette Catholic HS, Morgan Township HS, Tri-Township HS, Washington Township HS (Class 4).
