Kate Eisenhutt ’22 has been selected as a 2023 Fulbright Scholar. Through the Fulbright Scholar Program, this recent Valpo graduate will have the opportunity to meet, work, learn and live with the people of her host country while teaching and furthering her ultimate career aspirations.
“I think it’s really awesome, I’m still kind of in shock,” Eisenhutt said. “It’s one more step towards doing good in other communities, and one more step towards what I want to do later on in life.”
A German and music composition double-major, Eisenhutt will serve in Saxony, Germany. She hopes to use this experience to start a foundation teaching English or music to young people who cannot afford to learn elsewhere.
"Kate is a quintessential Fulbrighter, eager to learn more deeply about a country, culture, and language she has long studied even as she supports others in increasing their understanding of U.S. culture and English language fluency,” said Anna Stewart, Ph.D., assistant dean of Christ College — the Honors College. “She displays the natural instincts and diplomacy of an ambassador, bringing added expertise in music and ensemble leadership to facilitate meaningful connections in her German community."
Eisenhutt is among a select number of U.S. citizens who earned opportunities to study, conduct research and teach abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement as well as a record of service and leadership in their respective fields.
"Fulbright is one of the most recognized and respected fellowships around the world, and Valpo is proud to have so many alumni whose academic strengths, service ethos, and global mindedness have been recognized with this prestigious award,” said Provost Eric Johnson ’87, Ph.D.
Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 370,000 participants — chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
