The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics has announced the additions of JP Ehrman and Morgan Schumacher to the department’s sports medicine staff as assistant athletic trainers, while John Bell has been named Assistant Director of Sports Performance. All three joined the Valpo Athletics staff prior to the start of the 2024-25 academic and athletic year.
In addition, Nicole Mioduski has earned a title promotion to Head Football Athletic Trainer after previously holding the title of assistant athletic trainer.
Ehrman joined the Valpo Athletics staff during the summer of 2024 as an assistant athletic trainer. He works with the football and track & field programs.
Prior to arriving at Valpo, Ehrman gained experience as an athletic training intern with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League from May 2022 to April 2024. Before his stint with the Colts, he spent time at the University of Minnesota as a football graduate assistant athletic trainer from May 2020 to April 2021. He also worked with women’s soccer at Minnesota from January 2021 to March 2021.
Ehrman earned the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association Conference Most Outstanding Case Study Report in 2019 and was an Indiana Athletic Trainers Quiz Bowl Champion in 2018. He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and a minor in psychology in 2020 after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2022 with a master of education in sport management.
Schumacher joined the Valpo Athletics staff during the summer of 2024 as an assistant athletic trainer, working with the Valpo men’s basketball program while also working with women's cross country and cheer/dance.
She arrived on Valpo’s campus after previously serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Murray State University, where she worked with the baseball and football programs from July 2023 through May 2024. She began her time in Murray, Ky. as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the Racers’ volleyball program from August 2021 to May 2023.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association who holds numerous certifications and licenses, Schumacher gained experience as an athletic training student at Purdue University from August 2018 to May 2021. She graduated from Purdue with a bachelor’s in athletic training in May 2021 before going on to earn a master’s in human development and leadership from Murray State in May 2023.
Mioduski is in her seventh year as part of the Valpo athletic training staff and has worked with the football program throughout her time in the department. She was promoted to assistant athletic trainer in July 2020 and to Head Football Athletic Trainer prior to the 2024 season. She currently serves as the primary football athletic trainer while also working with men's and women’s golf. She previously worked with the Valpo men’s and women’s swim program as well.
Mioduski earned the promotion to full-time status after spending two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. She provided appropriate care to football and swimming student-athletes while coordinating treatment and return-to-play protocols with team physicians. During the 2019 summer, she organized coverage and supplies for all university-hosted athletic camps.
A May 2020 Valpo graduate with a master’s in sports administration, Mioduski previously earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Purdue University in May 2018. During her time in West Lafayette, Mioduski was named an Outstanding Senior in Athletic Training in April 2018 before going on to earn Recognition of Highest Distinction for M.S. in Sports Administration at Valpo in May 2020. She holds numerous certifications and memberships including National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
