The Valparaiso Speech and Debate Team recently sent many of its members to the state speech and state debate tournaments. At the state speech tournament, Valparaiso had five contestants, three of whom were freshmen, and one who qualified in two events. One of the freshmen, Christian Sayers received 6th place overall in the state.
At the state debate tournament, Valparaiso entered 25 students to compete in four debate events. The shining moment was having the first team in Valparaiso history make it to the final two in policy debate. Jacqui Peterschmidt and Kaitie Barton received 2nd place in the state. Overall, the team tied for 4th place in the state.
