With 12 juniors, 6 seniors and an exchange student from Denmark, the 2011 VHS Girls Soccer team expects to win the DAC, sectionals and hopefully more. In my opinion, this is the deepest team in quite a while. They kicked off the season with a scrimmage Saturday vs a young Hobart team.
The Lady Vikes were easily able to take advantage of the lesser experienced Brickies, scoring numerous times in the three 25 minute sessions. The Brickies rarely penetrated the Viking defense and were held scoreless. Tonight the Lady Vikes open the season at Kankakee Valley.
The Viking offense has done well the past few seasons, while the defense struggled at times. Coach Rob Cespedes has installed an exciting new defense consisting of a flat four instead of the diamond defense. This new defense also integrates the midfielders. We will get our first opportunity to watch it in action vs a new sophomore trio from KV this evening. Tuesday night the Vikes play at LaPorte in their first DAC game of the season.
It's going to be a beautiful night, so if you are in the mood for a little road trip, come on down to KV and support your Valparaiso Lady Viking soccer team. The photo shows the Lady Vikes scoring threats; Kaylee Pullins #12, Kate Johnson #13, and Andrea Violanti #5
