The Vikings’ Varsity tennis team beat out the 17th ranked Lake Central Indians 3-2 on Thursday, boosting their record to 7-1, and 5-1 in DAC play. Lake Central falls to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in DAC competition.
Valpo’s Mark Shideler defeated Thomas Lozandski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, while Freshman Ben Kalisch took down Senior Matt Radenciv 7-5, 6-3. Soma Szam fell 6-0, 6-2 to the Indian’s Adam Meeker.
In doubles play, Valpo’s team of Nate Johnson and Mart Pochop fell to the senior team of Adam Wroughton and Brad Spicer 6-0, 6-2. However, the Vikings’ Meyer and Quinn Donnell sealed the win as they beat out the Indians’ Gary Synder and Mark Radovich in the day’s only 3-set match 2-6, 7-6, 6-3.
The Vikings’ JV team fell 6-4.
