With Oak Partners’ new St. John office currently under construction, Wealth Advisor Xavier Reed is excited to be one of the staff members to get the new location up and running when the office is completed in a month. Reed became a certified financial advisor at the end of January, fulfilling his goal of getting back into the world of finance after spending five years working at the electronics recycling business run by his fiancée’s family.
“I went to school for finance, and I finally decided to make the leap and get back into finance last summer. I started to get my certifications and search around for different firms to work with, and I landed on Oak Partners,” Reed said. “I enjoy investing and analyzing the stock market, so I always had finance in the back of my mind even when I was working in electronics recycling.”
Reed admires how Oak Partners has grown by working with people in the community, helping businesses and individuals set goals and stay on track with their finances. With Oak Partners’ wealth of financial knowledge from 30 years of building up business, Reed has eagerly tapped into the minds of the experienced advisors and leaders around him to strengthen his own financial proficiency.
“I've really enjoyed doing my own practice. Starting from the ground up is tough, but the partners here are helpful and instructive. They let me sit in on meetings with them and soak everything in. It's been nice working with Marc Ruiz and Bridget Shoemaker who have both helped me out a lot,” Reed said.
Over the past few months, Reed has enjoyed learning from his coworkers, meeting with firms for luncheons to discuss the market, building up his own practice, and sitting down with clients to do analyses and create portfolios.
“I like meeting with clients and sitting down to figure out a plan that fits what that client needs and wants. Everybody has a different financial picture, so it’s interesting working with different people and building different portfolios,” Reed said.
Reed looks forward to servicing the St. John community with the same quality of financial and wealth planning Oak Partners has brought to its longstanding offices.
Aside from interacting with the community through his position as a wealth advisor, Reed enjoys spending time in the Valparaiso community. He and his wife live in downtown Valparaiso and love taking their two dogs on walks and exploring the downtown area. They are particularly fond of dining at Stacks Bar and Grill and visiting Journeyman Distillery, where they look forward to attending upcoming summer concerts. Reed also enjoys sports such as golf, tennis, and basketball and finding ways to spend time outside.
