2023 Black History Celebration

Event Information

Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr., the Department of Community Development, the Black History Coalition Committee and the Hammond Human Relations Commission, will host the 2023 Annual Black History Month Celebration. The celebration will take place at the Hammond Sportsplex Facility located at 6630 Indianapolis Blvd. Hammond, Indiana, on Thursday, February 2, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

As part of this year’s celebration, we will be recognizing the Divine Nine African American Fraternities and Sororities:  Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, est. 1906, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, est. 1908, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, est. 1911, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, est. 1911, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, est. 1913, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, est. 1914, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, est. 1920, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, est. 1922, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, est. 1963.
