Longest Night Service for Those Who Grieve

Longest Night Service for Those Who Grieve

Event Information

This event has expired.

The constant refrains on radio and television, in shopping malls and churches, about the happiness of the season, about getting together with family and friends, reminds many people of what they have lost. The anguish of the death of a loved one can make us feel alone in the midst of the celebrating and joy. At this time of year, we need the space and time to acknowledge our sadness; we need to know that we are not alone. We need encouragement and hope to live the days ahead of us.

December 21st is the winter solstice, typically regarded as the longest night of the year.  This year we are moving our Blue Christmas service to December 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary and framing it as the Longest Night. In order to accommodate this observance of our grief and need for healing and reconciliation, our staff decided to offer a service for the community to gather together to embrace the hope of life and light of the season. We hope that you will consider joining us for this special night. There will be time of lighting candles, hearing the choir sing and partaking in Holy Communion. Hope to see you as we gather in a community of faith.
