The Lakeshore Legends- Creative Writing Workshop with Heather Augustyn

Folklore has always been a part of human culture that connects people with the land and shared experiences. Westchester Public Library will present Lakeshore Legends- Creative Writing Workshop that celebrates this tradition by tapping into the collective creative to generate a new generation of folktales about the Dunes. Explore the region and write your own folktales that celebrate Duneland, guided by local author and writing instructor Heather Augustyn.

The creative writing workshop for teens will be take place June 11 – June 13, from 2-4 p.m. A workshop will also be offered for adults, 18 and older, June 25 – June 27, from 6 – 8 p.m. Both workshops will be held in the Computer Classroom at the Thomas Branch. Registration is required for this program and can be done in person or by calling Marta at (219) 926-7696.

Heather Augustyn is a continuing lecturer at Purdue Northwest where she teaches composition. She was a newspaper correspondent for 13 years and taught structured writing for five years at Chesterton Montessori School. She has a master's degree in writing from DePaul University and two bachelor's degrees from Bradley University in English and philosophy. She has six published books in Jamaican music history. She has been invited to lecture on her work in Jamaica, Spain, and throughout the United States. Her most rewarding experience is helping others explore their imagination, creativity, and love of language.
