Purdue Federal Credit Union to expand to Crown Point

By: Stacey Kellogg Last Updated: May 15, 2019

It’s an epic year for Purdue Federal Credit Union as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary of building trusting relationships with members and communities all over the world. Locally in the Region, the cornerstone of that celebration is the grand opening of a full-service Purdue Federal branch in Crown Point slated for August – their first expansion into Lake County.

“It does seem fitting that in our 50th year, we are embarking on a new journey into the Northwest Indiana market,” said Jackie Hofman, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Marketing for Purdue Federal Credit Union. “Purdue Federal is committed to continuing to serve our 80,000-plus members worldwide. We are very excited to serve the Crown Point and surrounding communities, and we trust that we will fulfill our mission of being our members’ trusted financial partner for life in this new market.”

The decision to expand into Crown Point was a natural one, considering Purdue University Northwest’s leading presence in the Region. “As part of Purdue Federal Credit Union’s strategic initiative to grow with Purdue and grow in markets where Purdue has a presence, we began researching the next opportunity for growth for the credit union. Northwest Indiana is an excellent opportunity for us to serve new members,” Hofman said.

Northwest Indiana has a healthy concentration of Purdue University alumni, faculty, staff, and students, who are all eligible for a credit union membership. Several businesses in the area may also quality for membership, she added.

The Crown Point branch will be located at 113th and Broadway, and will be a full-service branch offering home mortgages, investment services, and business products and loans – and, the same trusted support that members have come to expect from Purdue Federal.

“Today, Purdue Federal is still just as focused on the needs of our members and on being their trusted financial partner,” said Bob Falk, President and CEO of Purdue Federal Credit Union. “Over the years, our members’ needs have evolved, and our product offerings and staff expertise have evolved to meet those needs.”

Falk used the example of personal financial information protection.

“Data protection wasn’t much of an issue in 1969 as account cards were stored in a simple cigar box. Today, our members expect us to protect their personal financial information with the same focus that we protect their cash and valuables in our vaults. Trust means so much more than it did in 1969,” Falk said.

Originally, the credit union intended to offer simple loan and deposit products, but members, who own Purdue Federal Credit Union, asked for more. Today, Purdue Federal continues to provide competitive pricing and strives to offer members the most rewarding relationship as they continually listen to their needs, Falk said.

“A trusted partner was needed in 1969 and we believe that same trusted partner is even more important in 2019. We thank those visionaries who saw this need in 1969 and for all the members, staff, and volunteers who have helped create one of the strongest credit unions in the country,” Falk said. “We will continue to embrace this vision and look forward to growing and serving our membership for the next 50 years.”
