AVIVA Valparaiso offers a variety of living arrangements to match residents’ needs

Finding the perfect home for an older relative who requires assistance can be difficult. Whether from a fear of a drop in quality of life to guilt about “abandoning” a loved one, finding a senior living community that meets the needs of yourself and your loved ones can seem monumental.

AVIVA Valparaiso meets community members where they are with a variety of living arrangements that offer quality, engaging care, including short-term respite care services so your loved one can vacation while you do, and long-term assisted living and memory care services to ensure old age doesn’t mean a drop in life quality.

AVIVA’s assisted living services provide residents with support without being overbearing. AVIVA has 66 assisted living apartments – eight two bedrooms, 58 singles – and helps residents oversee everyday tasks that can easily slip the mind.

“On our assisted living site, we provide our residents with the gentle support that they may need so they can keep their independence,” said AVIVA Sales and Marketing Specialist Susan Burelli. “That could include assistance with their daily activities, medication management, continued monitoring of their health and behavior, or a more personalized care plan that a doctor would order for them.”

On top of helping maintain health, AVIVA’s assisted living services also provide a variety of social opportunities for residents to engage with each other.

“We have a full calendar of activities, and that helps our residents keep their socialization skills and be involved,” said Burelli.

For residents who require more care due to diseases or conditions affecting memory, AVIVA’s memory care services offer more support than the assisted living services while maintaining the same importance of independence and respect.

“We make sure your loved ones' care needs are being met, and we play a very vital role in their quality of life,” Burelli said. “Our memory care facility – we call it our village – is a separate neighborhood in our community. It has 24 private studio apartments. Every resident has their own bedroom, bathroom and shower located inside their own apartment.”

AVIVA has a JOURNEY-based approach to memory care which emphasizes interacting with residents and nurturing the relationships that develop within the community as well as visiting friends and family.

“A lot of our married residents in our memory care have a husband or wife who may still live at home coming on a daily basis to visit with them,” Burelli said. “We still very much love the relationship of the family coming in.”

Finally, AVIVA’s respite care lets senior family members get away for a few weeks with short-term stays and access to AVIVA’s services, including medication management and a full calendar of activities.

Regardless of the care needs of your loved ones, AVIVA’s approach incorporating health and well-being helps every resident feel independent, not alone.

“It's a very holistic approach,” said Burelli. “We like all of our residents to have a safe and secure environment that truly makes them feel like they live at home, and that begins with each of them having their own apartment.”

This only scratches the surface of what AVIVA is able to offer. Shopping, bingo, physical therapy, holiday activities, and more are waiting. Help your senior loved ones find a community that lets them stay happy, healthy, and independent.
