The girls’ track and field team finished in 3rd place at Tuesday nights’ sectional in Chesterton. The lady Indians were paced by some excellent performances with the following sectional champions.
Tori Bliss won the shot and discus. Tori also set a new sectional record with her throw of 49 feet and 3/4. Kristy Evans is your sectional Champion in the 100 meter dash while Jade McKnight picked up a sectional title in the long jump. Your 4 x 100 relay team of ashley smith, jade mcknight, arissa salas and kristy evans also brought home a sectional title.
Other regional qualifiers include jawanza woods in the 400, shakiea boyd in the 300 hurdles, katie engel in the pole vault, megan cassidy in the 2 mile, the 4 x 4 relay team of arissa salas, dominique turney, christina del turco, and jawanza woods. Lastly the 4 x 800 team of abby trader, paige pizer, keanna crum, and christina del turco also qualified for next Tuesdays’ Chesterton regional.
In softball the Lady Indians beat the Lowell Red Devils 13-8. Kylie Someson pitched 6 innings with 2 hits, 2 strike outs. Kristen Ashby was 3 fo4 at the plate.
The JV team beat Lowell in 9 innings 4-3. Player Highlights:
Heather Zengler went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and a game-winning walk-off double
Taylor Mora and Lauren Murray each went 2-3 with an RBI
Stephanie Upton added 2 hits
Allen Barrett pitched a complete game to pick up his 4th win on the year, giving up 3 hits and striking out 7 as the Indians beat Chesterton 5-1. Nate Ramian led the way with 2 hits, while Tony Cheky drove in 2 runs. Andrew Brown and Jeremy Sinkus also laced RBI singles in the victory.
The JV baseball team defeated Chesterton 3-1. Brade Stemple pitched 7 innings, allowing only 6 hits and struck out 3. He walked zero batters. Eric Mesarch was 2 for 3 at the plate. Justin Newcomb was 2 for 3 2 with 2 RBI’s. CJ Haupt, Tyler Soberg and Ty Kniola all had a hit and scored once.
The freshman team pounded Chesterton 12-4. Sam Schest was 3 for 4 and the plate with 1 RBI, Pete Psomadelis 3 for 3 with a triple and RBI and Jake Bears was 2 for 2.
