Mrs. Romie Kabella’s students, along with a few parent helpers, began by making bird feeders for each student’s home with environmentally friendly materials. Students discussed how important it is to take care of the Earth and its resources. “We should take care of the Earth so that it doesn’t get sick,” said Arie Robinson.

“We recycle paper, plastic bottles from snack and lunch, and batteries in our classroom,” Mrs. Kabella explained. “It takes about 500 years for plastic grocery bags to break down, and then they become bad for the soil,” said 1st Grader Ayden Westbury. “One of our parents is generously donating cloth grocery bags for each of our families to use for shopping,” added Mrs. Kabella.

Students finished the day’s activities by walking the grounds of the school collecting paper, plastic and other materials that pollute their school environment.
