Porter-Starke Services Foundation Hosts Dr. Janina Fisher for Annual Living Health, Balance & Hope Symposium

Porter-Starke Services Foundation will host the 2022 Living Health, Balance & Hope Symposium virtually this year with speaker Janina Fisher, Ph.D. Her presentation, “The Living Legacy of Trauma: Understanding Borderline Personality as a Trauma-Related Disorder,” will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The virtual workshop will center on the relationship between a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and a history of childhood abuse which has been shown to have a statistically significant relationship. Dr. Fisher will emphasize the need to reframe BPD as a consequence of trauma and show attendees new tools that support the therapeutic relationship and decrease the symptoms of this disorder. Participants will learn how to better differentiate symptoms of trauma and symptoms of personality disorder and adapt these new techniques to help their patients better their lives.

Dr. Fisher is a licensed clinical psychologist and former instructor at Harvard Medical School and is well known as a lecturer and clinician on the subject of trauma, both in the US and abroad. She has co-authored Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Interventions for Attachment and Trauma with Pat Ogden and authored Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors: Overcoming Self-Alienation and Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma.

Hosted annually by the Porter-Starke Services Foundation, the Living Health, Balance & Hope Symposium educates, advocates, and celebrates mental health and wellness. The event features leaders and innovators from the field of mental health. This year’s Symposium will take place via Zoom and the link to join will be provided to registrants the week prior to the event. Attendees may be eligible for three continuing education units.
