Thank You, Mayor Velazquez

With the arrival of the New Year, comes a new Mayor for the City of Portage. The Portage Chamber would like to thank the past Mayor for great support of our Chamber and her hard work the last four years for our great city.

Over the last four years, it was rare for Mayor Velazquez to miss our luncheon and even less likely for her not to be in attendance at our main events. Her support of our Music in The Park series, golf outing, banquet, Portage Community & Business Night, and Chamber Director and Community Profile were all examples of her strong support for our Chamber efforts.

Sitting on the PEDCO and Portage Education Foundation Boards with Mayor Velazquez were excellent opportunities for me to see her willingness to give her time and talents to organizations that were important for our community and schools.

Mayor Velazquez’s love for Portage is well documented, but I most respected the personal hours she put in working tirelessly to bring a festival atmosphere to Portage. Over the past two years, co-chairing the Perch Fest event with the Mayor was very rewarding for me. My reward was working hand in hand with City and Park employees before, during, and after the event and making new friends in the process. The City was awarded with an event close to home where they could count on having a wonderful weekend for the entire family.

On a personal note, I want to thank Mayor Velazquez for our special relationship during her time as Mayor.
